About the Group

The group's field of work and goals.

The Mobile Element Research Group investigates how mobile genetic elements relate to genomic diversity, gene expression, and responses to environmental stress. Our work focuses on retrotransposons and endogenous retroviruses, using molecular methods to examine their distribution and variation among individuals in plant and human samples.

We use retrotransposon-based markers in plants such as rice, barley, and maize to evaluate genetic diversity, changes associated with tissue culture, and responses to stress. Studies of endogenous retrovirus polymorphisms in human samples, together with research on DNA damage and repair, extend this work on genome dynamics across biological systems.
